"Spring into Terror" horror review project!

We are excited to announce the Spring into Terror horror book review project. Spring into Terror is a collaborative effort presenting reviews of horror fiction that will be available for your reading pleasure this Spring. In addition to providing reviews of horror titles you might be interested in adding to your collection, “Spring into Terror” will highlight participating horror fiction review sites that cover both small press and mainstream horror. Collaborating review sites include: Horrorworld.org, Horror-Web.com, Hellnotes.com, DreadCentral.com, Fearzone.com, HorrorDrive-in.com, MonsterLibrarian.com, and Dark Scribe Magazine. Visit the Spring into Terror to see a list of the titles reviewed at participating sites.

MonsterLibrarian.com has reviews of The Unwanted by Diablo, Mark Michaels, Juan Romera, and Jason Arthur in our adult Graphic Novel section. Bob Freeman reviews Horrors Beyond 2: Stories of Strange Creations ed. by William Jones in the Cthulhu Mythos section and The Monsters of Templeton by Lauren Groff in the adult Something Different section. Michele Lee reviews The Man on the Ceiling by Melanie Tem and Steve Rasnic Tem in the Something Different section. All these reviews are part of the "Spring into Terror" project.

Michele Lee also reviews J.W. Coffy's A Wager of Blood in the adult Supernatural section. The Monster Librarian reviews Peadar O Guilin's The Inferior in the young adult Dark Fantasy section. Finally, for the kids there is a review of Damien Graves's The Midnight Library: The Cat Lady in the Scary Books for Kids section.

New Year, New Reviews

Happy New Year from all of us at MonsterLibrarian.com! To kick off the New Year, Bret Jordan reviews Last Dragon by J.M. McDermott in the Something Different Section for adults. There is a review of City Slab magazine in the Horror Periodicals section. Dennis Latham's Michael In Hell is reviewed in the adult Human Horror section. Finally, for the fans of young adult vampire titles there is a review of Marked: House of Night by P.C. and Kristen Cast in the young adult vampire section. The Coming Horror Fiction Releases has been started for 2008 and will be updated as new releases are announced. We are pleased to offer an introduction to Splatterpunk by John Skipp in the Splatterpunk 101 page found in the Book Ends section. We have selected MonsterLibrarian.com's Top Picks for 2007 for adult, young adults, and children's titles.

11/16/07 New reviews of The Desert, Mister B Gone, and The Blackburn & Scarletti Mysteries, Vol II

I am happy to report that we presented a session at the Indiana Library Federation Annual Conference titled Letting the Monsters Out to Play: Collection Development and Readers Advisory in Horror Fiction. If anyone was looking for the handouts from the conference they are available at the The ILF Presentation page. We had a great crowd and had lots of fun.

Halloween update! New reviews

I want to welcome two new reviewers, Bob Freeman and David Agranoff, to the staff of MonsterLibrarian.com. We are excited to have them join us. In this update, Bob Freeman reviews Elder Signs Press's periodical Dark Wisdom edited by William Jones in the Horror Magazine section. The Angry Princess reviews Zoe Whitten's The Lesser Of Two Evils in the adult Human Horror section. The Monster Librarian reviews Midlisters by Kealan Patrick Burke also in the human horror section. There is a review for Eric S Brown's zombie chapbook Zombies II;Inhuman in the zombie section. For those who like young adult vampire fiction there is a review of Melissa de la Cruz's follow up to Blue Bloods, Masquerade. For the children The Monster Librarian reviews Mirrorstone Book's A Practical Guide to Monsters by Nina Hess. In the Monster Librarian's Spotlight we focus on book trailers. For the next two months we are running a few Contests, including one surrounding David Morrell's Scavengers and art contests for both children and adults. Finally, there have been new entries added to the World War II Horror fiction list and an update on Rio Youer's End Times.

New reviews for zombie fiction, horror anthologies, and one for a Cthulhu collection

Bret Jordan reviews David Moody's Autumn: Purification in the adult Zombie section. David Agranoff reviews Tattered Souls edited by Frank J. Hutton and The Monster Librarian reviews A Dark and Deadly Valley edited by Mike Heffernan in the adult Horror Anthologies section. We would like to welcome a new reviewer to MonsterLibrarian.com Bob Freeman, who reviews Horrors Beyond (Tales of Terrifying Realities) edited by William Jones in the adult Cthulhu Mythos section. There is another specialty horror fiction list now posted the Western Horror Fiction List lists horror titles set in the Old West. 5/24/07 New horror fiction reviews for adults and young adults

Bret Jordan reviews Mark Leslie's One Hand Screaming in the something different section for adults. He also reviews the J. Robert King's Ravenloft werewolf book Heart of Midnight. In the adult supernatural section there is a review of Jason Brannon's Winds of Change. For those who like young adult vampire books there is a review of Julie Kenner's The Good Ghoul's Guide to Getting Even . There are new links for small press publishers a horror movie review site that have been added to the Links page. Finally, the Monstrous Music page has been renamed Monstrous Media with the addition of a link to a fun little zombie related library promotion video.

3/30/07 Reviews of Noir, Zombies, and Dracula vs. Grampa

1/25/07 Another zombie review, a first look at Y/A vampire novel Tantalize, and Philip Henry's Mind's Eye

A little bit of cosmetic upgrade on the site today, so minor you might not even notice it. This week Bret Jordan reviews J.L Bourne's Day by Day Armageddon for zombie book readers. In addition, for those interested in the shuffling dead, I provided a link to a great zombie article written by author Shannon Riley on the zombie page. I provide a review of Candlewick's much anticipate vampire release by Cynthia Leitich Smith titled Tantalize. Finally, a review of Philip Henry's Mind's Eye in the supernatural section for adults. In the Book Ends section I added an Ask the Monster Librarian page for all those with horror fiction questions (including collection development and readers advisory). In the end of year reviewfest we have reviews for Z A Recht's The Morningstar Strain: Plague of the Dead from Permuted Press in the adult zombie section. A Cemetery Dance Novella by Tom Piccirilli and Edward Gorman titled Cast in Dark Waters is reviewed in the adult vampire section. Harry Shannon's The Pressure of Darkness is reviewed in the adult Horror Adventure section. For the Young Adults there is a review in the Supernatural section for E. E. Richardson's The Intruders. For the 12 and younger crowd the fantastic pop up book Mommy?with art by Maurice Sendak, the scenario by Arthur Yorinks, and the paper engineering by Matthew Reinhart. 12/7/06 Reviews, Links, and a Horror Survival Guide

This week there are three new reviews and a few other additions. The first is for John Skipp's The Long Last Call published by Cemetery Dance Publications in the adult Supernatural section. The second is Alabaster by Caitlin Kiernan in the Horror Adventure section for adults. Young Adults have a review for The Book of Dead Days by Marcus Sedgwick in the young adult teen section. There ahve been additional links for librarian resources added to the Links page. Finally, the Shockline's Horror Survival Guide has been added to the Odds and Ends page, it was created sometime back from various authors it is a fun little read for fans of the horror genre. Sections of the site are undergoing a slight facelift which we hope to have compelted within the next week.
